A brief history

Andronikashvilis’s Marani was established in 2012 in the village of Akhasheni in the Gurjaani Municipality, part of the Kakheti region. Owner/winemaker Guram Andronikashvili makes 6,000 bottles of certified-organic amber, orange and dry and sweet red wines in qvevri, using Saperavi, Rkatsiteli and Kisi varieties. The winery is located in the Papari Valley, between the Chermiskhevi and Papriskhevi rivers, north of the eastern-most hills of the Greater Caucasus range. The Andronikashvili family have been making wine for generations but lost everything after the Russian revolution of 1917. They continued to make wine for family consumption until the break-up of the Soviet Union and Georgian independence. Since then, the family has been resurrecting the family’s winemaking tradition.
