Nose

A light nose with hints of apple and pear.

Palate

Good mouthfeel with lots of minerality, acidity and real grip on the finish. Rkatsiteli’s high acidity cuts through this wine’s richness, a combination of honeyed quince fruit and tahini-like nuttiness. It’s impressively fresh and tense until the finish, when the spiced mead-like earthy notes begin to weigh the wine down.

Growing Conditions

To provide a basis Schuchmann acquired 120ha of land of which 60ha are currently under vines. Dark fertile soils offer an excellent basis for viniculture! The oldest vines were planted in 1986. 9 ha belong to Rkatsiteli which represents our main white wine grape. Irrigation : None

Winemaking

The Vinoterra Rkatsiteli is a perfect intro into Georgian Amber qvevri wines. Vinoterra is now the largest qvevri producer after starting out as a family project in 2003. Wine Maker Gogi Dakishvili crafts this all natural wine with the western pallet in mind. His qvevri wines have all of the characteristics of authentic Georgian qvevri wine but with elevated acidity and more rounded tannin. All Vinoterra wines are all natural wines made in Qvevri (large clay jars buried underground). The Rkatsiteli is made in the amber wine style where it is aged on the skins for 6 months developing the tannin structure of a red. Fermentation: Qvevri Maceration: 6 months Yeast: Wild/Airborne Sulfites: Low Filtration: Unfiltered

Aging

6 months ageing in bottle before the release on the market.

Food Pairing

Kakhetian style Rkatsiteli is made for food. This wine is perfect with grilled fish or pork chops with apples and onions.
